How to make a Table Lamp

Wooden and Metal Table Lamp

Table Lamps of any kinds are the essential products to increase our productivity. It provides the necessary lighting while working, studying, drawing, DIY-ing, repairing something on table or worktable.

Introduction -

A Table lamp can be portable or sometimes fixed to the table. Portable table lamp designed to be placed on a table or desk. It's main purpose is to provide the necessary lightning on the table while working. It must have a bulb to give lightning to the table. Some table lamps are wireless/cordless (Battery Powered), but most table lamp are corded. Corded table lamp preform best compared to those cordless ones.

Let's Make -

Base - To make the base of the table lamp we need a wood or plywood of size L*W*T (6*"6"*1"). Measure and mark the wood as the given dimension with the help of Cutter Machine or Table saw or Hand saw. Remember the base of the table lamp should be equals or greater than 1" thick because it should be heavier enough to hold all the weight of the lamp. Mark the center lines on the base to attach a plywood of size L*W*T (3*"2"*18 mm).

We need to attach this piece of plywood perpendicular to the base. For this we will measure and mark the dimension on the base then we will make minimum 18 mm deep mortise, here L*W*T (3*"2"*18 mm) plywood will work as tenon. We will make mortise using wood router / trimmer and router bits. But in case you don't have wood trimmer or router, the mortise can be made using wood chisels. But it will be very time consuming. Now carefully joint the perpendicular plywood on the base with the use of hammer. Before joining tenon and mortise use fevicol and nails to secure it firmly. Also make a 5 mm hole in the upper area of the perpendicular plywood so that we can connect arms of the lamp to the base. The perpendicular plywood will work as the connection point to the base and the arms of the lamp.

Make holes for cable to pass through the base and for the switch using wood router, drill machine and chisels.

Arms - To make the arms of the lamp we need Metal bars W*T (20 mm*1.5 mm). It would cost more for drilling holes in the metal. Arms of the lamp can also be made of plywood, we need plywood of the size of W*T (1"*12 mm). There are the details length of metal bars or plywood strips are 16" = 2, 12" = 4, 6" = 2. Carefully make 5 mm hole in all metal bar's corner for nut and bolts.

We need to make bolt sliding holes using angle grinder in 2 metal bars sized 12".

Connect 16" = 2 to the perpendicular plywood using 4 mm nuts and bolts.

Connect 12" = 2 metal bars at end of the 16" metal bars using nuts and bolts. Cut 1" = 4 round wheels from plywood using hole saw bits and sand them using sandpaper. Put these wheels between every holes in the bars using nuts and bolts, so that bars can remain stable and do not crunch while tightening nuts and bolts together.

Connect 12" = 2 metal bars between 16" metal bar & 12" metal bar (with sliding bars) using nut and bolts.

Connect 6" = 2 bars at the end of the 12" metal bar (with sliding bars)

Bulb Socket - To make the bulb socket of the table lamp we need to create a square box type structure using plywood. The dimension of the plywood would be L*W*T (6"*4"*8 mm) = 4. Width of the plywood would be 4" at one end and 3" at other end. Carefully measure and cut all four pieces using handsaw or wood cutter machine.

Assemble all the plywood pieces together make a box like structure using fevicol and nails. One end should be 4" and second end should be 3" while assembling all the pieces together.

After assembling basic structure of the bulb socket. Cut out a piece of plywood of size L*W*T (3"*"3"*12 mm) for the back.

Drill holes at the back of the structure for bulb holder wiring. Connect the bulb holder beneath the back part of the bulb socket of the lamp. connect the cable in the bulb holder through the back plywood of the bulb socket.

Assemble the holder part and box together using fevicol and nails.

Cut out a piece of plywood of size L*W*T (2"*"2"*12 mm). Make 5 mm hole at the end of this plywood. This will work as the connection point between bulb socket and the arm of the table. Lamp.
Fasten the bulb socket to the arm of the lamp using nuts and bolts.

Connect the bulb holder wire to the switch (on the bottom) by wiring it along with the arms of the lamp. Then from switch to the 2 Pin plug, So that we can connect or disconnect the lamp from electricity any time we want. Length of the wire from switch to the electricity should be minimum 5'.

Connect the bulb to the holder. Plug 2 Pin plug into the electricity. On the switch. Your handmade table lamp is ready to use.

How to make a glue gun and heat gun stand

Glue Gun Stand Introduction - A Glue gun is an electric tool which uses a heating element to melt and dispense thermoplastic adhesive, also known as hot glue. The glue gun consists a handle, trigger and a nozzle (made of metal) that heats up when electric current is applied to the glue gun and melt the glue stick. When glue gets melted, it is dispensed through the nozzle on the material to be glued. Glue gun is used mostly in crafts, DIY projects and other applications where a strong and fast drying glue is required. It come in variety of sizes, shapes, styles and with cord or cordless, with different temperature regulators, to accommodate different types of glue sticks (thermoplastic adhesives). As you all know that dealing with glue gun is very messy. Melted glue may burn skin of fabric it contacts with. So here comes the invention of glue gun which makes Glue gun more efficient than ever before. Making your own Glue gun stand is very fun and easy DIY project. Here is the li

How to make a Twist drill bits Holder

Twist Drill Bits Holder Introduction -  Twist drill bits are the very essentials and common tools in the maker's shop, specially in a wood working shop. And they are used to make round hole in any kind of materials like wood, metal, plastic, wall, ceramics. These bits are twisted in a spiral pattern that's why they are called twisted drill bits or simply twist drill bits. The spiral pattern of the twist drill bits also help in removing material through spiral shaped design from the material it is being drilled. A shop is not considered a shop if it has no drill bits. Drill a hole in any kind of material is the first and necessary thing to do. Without drill making any kind of project in unimaginable. So drill bits are very necessary tools in a shop and to organize them in also necessary so they can't be lost somewhere in the shop. If we talk about point angle of cutting edges of a drill bits, it depends on the material being drilled and the results we want. For Ex - poi
